It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Larry Taylor yesterday, August 19, 2019. Larry was, of course, not only Mel’s younger brother but uncle to Leon Taylor and also my brother-in-law. He is more than just family because, during the late 1960s and early 1970s, he recorded with The Ventures and co-wrote some of the tracks on the “Joy” album. In 1997, after Mel Taylor passed away, Larry recorded on The Ventures’ “Wild Again II” album, the first album on which Leon recorded with The Ventures. He was the consummate bass player, an amazing performer and musician. At age 18, he toured with Jerry Lee Lewis and worked with many legendary artists. He is most well-known for his work with Canned Heat but played with many other groups over the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Andrea, his daughters Rebecca and Mollie, his son Danny, his sister Laura and all family members. He will be missed by family, friends and music fans the world over.
