A Blast from the Past – look at the Australian charts from August 30, 1963

I recently received a mailing tube from good friend and fan of The Ventures, Terry Robins. He sent me some rare posters from Ventures’ tours in Japan and Scandinavia, plus two charts from Australian music magazines: 2SM National Top 100 and 2UE Official Top 40. They are for the week beginning Friday, August 30, 1963 – they don’t completely agree in terms of chart positions. The Ventures are in there for both Ninth Wave and Memphis. However, what I found so interesting is that there are so many artists and song titles that I recognize. Since these are Australian charts they combine both US and British artists. The wealth of talent is enormous. So check them out and take a walk down memory lane. You’ll probably laugh out loud when you see that “Hello Mudduh, Hello Fudduh” is actually a big hit – imagine a quirky song like that making it into the Top 10 in today’s world!
