EMI Japan will be releasing a CD entitled “Rocky!” featuring all new recordings by The Ventures. The record company asked the group to record “Venture-ized” versions of “Eye of the Tiger” and “Gonna Fly Now” to coincide with the release of the latest Rocky movie in Japan. In addition, The Ventures recorded a new version of Diamond Head (Diamond Head 2007) and a cover of “Little Green Bag” which was featured on a popular TV commercial in Japan, along with a number of highly recognizable and commercial hits – “Turn Turn Turn”, “All You Need is Love”, “I Will Survive” etc …
EMI Japan is also releasing two compilation CDs - “The Ventures Play The Ventures” with tracks recorded in 1979/1980, with the original line-up of Don Wilson, Bob Bogle, Mel Taylor and Nokie Edwards and “Go With The Ventures”. This last release also contains two video clips, viewable on computer, of promotional spots – for “Hawaii Five-O” and “Flights of Fantasy” - filmed in the late 1970’s – long before MTV was a gleam in anyone’s eye – proving once again that The Ventures were always ahead of the curve.
In addition, M&I Records, a division of the promotion company that has represented The Ventures in Japan for over 15 years, will release “The Ventures Live in Japan 2006” – the first “live” CD to feature Bob Spalding on bass guitar as a full-fledged member of the group, as well as “The Electric Ventures”, a 2-CD set with 50 titles compiled from studio recordings made by the group since 1999. |
